FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

GESA’22

EduEnter Group Ghana, organizers of Ghana’s Premier Environmental & Sanitation Awards (GESA) in collaboration with lead partner Zoomlion Ghana, with support from the Ministry of Sanitation & Water Resources outline details of the upcoming Awards Dinner Night and other Pre – Events.

AWARDS OVERVIEW
DATE: Friday, 30th September, 2022
VENUE: National Theatre, Accra
END OF VOTING: Friday, 23rd September @11:59pm
THEME: Celebrating Distinguished Service to Ghana’s Environmental
& Sanitation Narrative – Over the Last Decade.

ABOUT GHANA ENVIRONMENTAL & SANITATION AWARDS (GESA ‘22)
The Ghana Environmental & Sanitation Awards (GESA) is a pace setting annual awards scheme that seek to encourage Government, Private sector, NGO’s, Multi & Bilateral organizations, Foundations, Trusts, Civil Society Groups, Citizens and all Individuals living in Ghana to create synergies to work towards achieving our set goals in the Environmental & Sanitation value chain. (SDG GOAL 6, 13 and 14).

Thus, GESA as a Positive-Reinforcement-Mechanism seeks to Name, Acknowledge and Reward individuals and product or service providers, in the Environmental & Sanitation Value-chain whose activities directly or indirectly contribute towards Ghana attaining Environmental Freedom, hence becoming a Clean, Healthy & Safe Nation.

This year’s ‘ROYALTY EDITION’ of the Ghana Environmental and Sanitation Awards seeks to set the agenda for a National discussion on how we can empower our Traditional Rulers to lead the collective drive for an environmentally sustainable country, hence clean, healthy and safe. We believe Traditional Leaders Are Key to Ghana’s Environmental and Sanitation Renaissance”.

GESA ‘22 shall also advocate on winnable ways to Stimulate the Ghanaian Media to Lead-From-Front in our Environmental & Sanitation Promotion, hence Fast-tracking our Collective Quest for a Clean, Green and Beautiful Ghana – within a Record Time.

PRE – EVENTS
As a prelude to the Awards Dinner Night, organizers will host the biggest Environmental Awareness & Advocacy Walk dubbed “1 Million Walk For a Clean, Ghana and Beautiful Ghana”, slated for 16th September, 2022 to commemorate International Day for the Preservation of the Ozone Layer and also “MyGoal – Clean Ghana Now” campaign on 16th September, 2022 to also commemorate World Clean-up Day on 17th September, 2022.

The Walk will predominantly engage young people especially the students population in this revolutionary initiative intended to draw large numbers, to make the most resounding commitment on the younger generation’s resolve to help achieve a National dream of a Clean, Green and Beautiful Ghana and also seize the opportunity to provide simple but futuristic solutions to address our myriad of environmental issues, especially the waste menace as a Nation, which can be monetized.

During the walk, placards, banners and other informative materials will be displayed reminding and sensitizing the general public on the importance and the need for Environmental sustainability..

Thus, messages carried on Electronic / Print / Social Media before or during the Walk shall highlight on offering solutions or giving advice on our Sanitation challenges as a Nation. Therefore, the Walk wouldn’t be used to recount problems or what current and successive Governments haven’t done – that will only be for political expediency. Instead, the Walk will offer solutions and create more change agents for the Nation, through education and advocacy for empowerment.

The Clean – up on the other – hand will target the La Nkwantanang – Madina Municipality, with some sensitization campaigns with the Regional Queens of Ghana’s Premier Environmental – focus Advocacy Beauty Pageant brand, Miss Galaxy Ghana.

WHO GETS TO BE NOMINATED?
GESA ’22 Nomination(s) is a result of several months of intense Research on Individuals, Institutions (including State), Corporations and Organizations whose visible commitment towards the advancement of the Environmental and Sanitation narrative of Ghana (over the past decade) is exemplifying and thus deserve acknowledgement for the selfless service to humanity and excellence in carrying out mandate. This Award scheme being the first toiler-made for the industry, hopes to continue inspiring all citizenry to do more as we strive as a country to become an Environmental Haven for all.

Some interesting categories include: Most Impactful Regional Minister; Most Influential Media Personality in Environmental and Sanitation Promotion; Most Impactful MMDCE in Environmental and Sanitation Promotion; Most Impactful Clean / Green Ghana Ambassador; Most Influential Celebrity in Environmental and Sanitation Promotion; Most Impactful Waste Management / Recycling Organization; Most Impactful Wash Ambassador and many more.

OVERALL BEST AWARD
The most flagship award of GESA’ 22 is christened ‘Most Dedicated BorlaMan / BorlaWoman ’22 (i.e. chosen between the best Waste Picker / Street Sweeper / Cesspit Emptier).

It is rather unfortunate, people who do waste / refuse collecting, street sweeping or cesspit collecting (Scavengers & Recyclers inclusive) as a profession, gets little or no recognition in society with a higher percentage being impoverished. Sad to say, they are most often disrespected by the very people they lend their services to.

GESA 2022 therefore shall place the spotlight on them; thus, engaging in strategic stakeholder discussions to fashion out better and healthier working conditions

GESA thus wishes that collectively we can help achieve behavioral change amongst most Ghanaians, especially towards sustainable living; all in a bid to support Governments’ effort to ensure the realization of a common dream – a clean, green and beautiful Ghana.
