Just as hinted on by the popular Girl Empowering Movement which is abbreviated as GEM, Saturday the 16th of October was set right for the visitation,feeding and breast screening of inmates at the female section of the Nsawam High Prisons.

The GEM team on which this very initiative was made to come to live was welcomed by the Officer In Charge of Nsawam Female Prisons in the person of ADP Christiana Asiedu.

The program was kicked off by an observance of presentation of food items including toiletries and more to the section through the Officer In Charge as this would help ease the living conditions of the inmates in the yard and this was done by the founder and President of the Girl Empowering Movement in the person of Miss Awuraabena Appianimaa Boateng Sarpong;a student of the University Of Professional Studies.


The presentation was followed by a brief engagement with the female inmates where they were educated on in the need to stay protected. The major topics that were touched on included the causes ,effects and remedies to cervical and breast cancer as well as all other related issues in that regard.
Just as the brief engagement was going on, a section of the yard was demarcated for the breast screening and inmates were moved out in batches to be attended to.
The brief health talks and engagement was followed by moments of fun initiated by head representatives of GEM in escort with briefing the prisoners on the very objectives and mission of GEM. Inmates were allowed to request for songs , dance and sing along in the form of competitions and winners were given products from sponsors and these included sanitary pads,drinks,milo and more.
In about five to six hours, the entire female prison yard though in very strict order became as well fun and full of laughter.

Miss Awuraabena Appianimaa Boateng Sarpong was given the mantle to end the occasion with her closing remarks and speaking to the whole attending mass in the auditorium, she thanked the high command of the Nsawam Female Prisons for allowing this initiative become a possible one. She as well thanked all sponsors and sister foundations who came to support the agenda mentioning the Shay Foundation as well as the religious embodiment of Christ Embassy who came to gift all inmates their rapsody booklets.
Bloggers who where in charge of this movement UrsTruly Praiz News and 1957 News after the entire event took time off to engage the aforementioned Officer in Charge of the Nsawam Female Prisons in an interview and her basic concern upon being asked the challenges was on the general need for more easy conditions of work. She used the medium to solicit for more help from the general public in terms of vehicles for easy movements especially in times of emergencies because in as much as the service has a working ambulance, it is situated at the men’s section and has to moved to the female section when there is an emergency.

ADP Christiana Asiedu also spoke about the need for more medications for the inmates as their health insurance is mostly not able to cover up most of their health charges.
