Another suspect believed to be connected to the Takoradi market circle robbery has been gunned down by men in uniform as another has been arrested as part of the Wednesday evening operation by the Ghana Police Service.
Reports from the Ghana Police Servicesays the operation was jointly conducted by a team of officers from the Western Regional Criminal Investigations Department together with SWAT officers from the Accra Regional command.
A communique released by the Police says they closed in on the suspects at Elmina in the central region along the Cape Coast-Takoradi road.
It has been made known in a report that, in an attempt to arrest the suspects, a shootout ensued and one of the suspects who was later identified as Shankiki, aged about 30 years, was gunned down whilst two others managed to escape on a motorbike.
Police has disclosed that, a blue motorbike as well as one live and one spent AK-47 ammunition, a live tortoise and a talisman were also recovered as the operation went on.
A suspect, Inusah Fuseini, aged 25-years, who was at the hideout that was discovered by the police was arrested for interrogation.
The body of the suspected robber has been conveyed to the police hospital morgue for preservation and autopsy as police say efforts are underway to arrest those on the run for interrogation.
The robbery, on April 12, left 61-year-old, Charles Kwakye Agyako, dead after he was shot in the chest by the robbers on motorbikes after withdrawing money from a bank.
The Western Regional Police Command had offered a GHS10,000 bounty for information on the robbers.
