A total number of 245 Ghanaians based in Kuwait on illegal claims and terms have been deported and reported by the government of Kuwait to be landing in Ghana tomorrow thus the 23rd of May 2020 on a special chattered flight at the expense of the kuwait government.
In a press briefing over the reported deportation on Friday by the minister of information, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah said “the government of Ghana has granted a special permit for the admission of the said deportees to Ghana,” and this comes even though the government has closed all boarders to avoid importation of the novel corona virus.
During his statement, the minister said that all deportees will be put in a mandatory quarantine which will escort testing for the coronavirus upon arrival into the country adding that, deportees who test positive would be given the necessary supportive treatment while those who test negative will remain in quarantine for a second test at the end of a 14-day quarantine period. The cost would be borne by the government of Ghana.
The minister made it known that all the deportees will remain in the custody of the state in line with immigration laws of Ghana on deportees as investigation would then commence into the circumstances of their illegal stay in Kuwait, the Minister said.
“it is after this investigation that a case by case determination would be made on the status and further handling of each deportee…” Kojo Oppong Nkrumah added.
