A communiqué from the Public Affairs Directorate of the University of Ghana has reported that scientists from the university has analysed 15 basic samples from a couple of selected cases in Ghana to gather very basic and primary understanding of the differences the virus posses in Ghana.
Scientists present at the Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research as well as the West African Centre for Cell Biology of Infectious Pathogens all at the University of Ghana have obtained practical data about the virus responsible for the COVID-19 pandemic
It has been noted that the gathered samples were obtained from foreigners from UK, Norway, Hungary, India, United States, and the United Arab Emirates and others from persons who had no travel history and believed to have had infections in the community where they lived.
Professor Gordon Awandare who happens to be the director for West African Centre for Cell Biology of Infectious Pathogens has said that, while there were some differences between the strains from the various countries, all the genomes have a resemblance to the strain isolated in the Wuhan Province where the outbreak began.
